A private tennis coach in Virginia is accused of having unlawful and inappropriate contact with a girl he trained when she was underage, according to county police.
Detectives with Fairfax County’s Child Abuse Squad arrested Tony Adams, 62, of Lorton, after the victim reported a sex offense to officers at the West Springfield District Station late last month, according to Fairfax County Police on Friday, Dec. 5.
Police said the victim told investigators she “was subjected to inappropriate conduct by a 62-year-old man when she was a minor.”
Detectives determined that Adams "engaged in unlawful and inappropriate contact as a private tennis coach with the victim while she was underage.”
In addition to giving private lessons, police said Adams worked as an assistant tennis coach at West Springfield High School from 2015 to 2016, and later served as a tennis coach at Lake Braddock Secondary School in 2018.
He also “supported the tennis program at West Springfield in 2022, but not as a coach,” according to the department.
Detectives found Adams in Fairfax County on Nov. 24 and took him into custody, officials said.
He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with four counts of indecent liberties by custodian, police said. He was held on no bond.
Victim specialists with the department’s Victim Services Division “have been assigned to ensure that the victim is receiving appropriate resources and assistance,” police said.
