A contractor broke a 12-inch water line along Mockingbird Lane in Northwest Dallas Friday afternoon, sending waves of water down the street and forcing authorities to close the roadway for several hours, the city said.
Water customers in the area who lost service were notified by Dallas Water Utilities staff, the city said.
Initially, crews shut down all lanes of Mockingbird between Maple Avenue and Forest Park Road, but the city has since opened everything but two lanes westbound.
"DWU repair crews will continue working towards restoring water service and reopening lanes to traffic as soon as possible," city spokesman Nick Starling said in a statement.
