SAN ANTONIO — Newly released 911 recordings from the July 4 flooding disaster in Kerr County offer a real-time account of fear, confusion, and the overwhelming pressure facing both residents and emergency dispatchers as the Guadalupe River rose rapidly before dawn.
KENS 5 obtained the recordings Friday. The calls show the incredible reality of what was happening that morning, at the onset of what became one of the worst natural disasters in Texas history.
The first calls began coming in shortly before 3 a.m. Callers reported that water around them was already rising, blocking roads as people were trying to get to higher ground. One caller, Scott Towery at the River Inn Resort, compared the water level to the catastrophic 1998 flood.
