The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands council has unanimously approved a series of waste-management measures that will reshape how recycling and household garbage are handled across the township beginning in 2026.
The decision authorizes staff to sign a change order with Circular Materials Ontario (CMO) to renew the township’s depot operations agreement for up to three additional one-year terms. The move comes as the province’s shift to an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model takes full effect on Jan. 1, 2026, transferring financial and operational control of blue box recycling from municipalities to producers.
