SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Construction vehicles were expected to be out near the dam at Lower Lake on Friday, as crews prepared to begin replacing 100 tons of stone that had washed away from the shoreline next to the dam.
However, the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District paused those plans after it received legal threats from a Cleveland Heights resident and attorney who has vowed to fight the district’s proposal to drain the lake and destroy the dam.
The district hired contractor Nerone and Sons to replace riprap that has washed out since a 2019 stabilization effort, installing about 100 tons of larger stone along 226 feet of the upstream embankment. The crews were expected to stage equipment Friday ahead of the work set to begin Monday.
