CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) might have to close as many as six elementary schools to deal with dropping enrollment and subsequent funding loss.

Enrollment is the district’s biggest moneymaker, and due to the loss of hundreds of students, the district is missing out on more than $5 million this year.

When CRCSD loses students to competitors, it loses money too.

This year, more than 200 incoming kindergarteners chose educational paths outside the district, which has a long financial impact.
