MADISON (WKOW) -- The 2026 Paralympic Winter Games will start in Italy in early March. Three months ahead of that, two Wisconsin wheelchair curlers are the first athletes to secure their spot on Team USA.
Steve Emt, from DeForest, and Laura Dwyer, from Oconomowoc, qualified for the games when they won the mixed doubles team curling title at the Paralympic Team Trials in North Dakota.
When they head to Italy next year, Dwyer will be taking part in the Paralympics for the first time. Emt will be making his third trip to the games. In the 2018, he placed 12th in the mixed team event. Four years later, he came in fifth.
The Paralympic Winter Games will open on March 6, 2026. This will be the first time athletes compete for medals in wheelchair curling mixed doubles.
