MADISON, Wis. -- With winter weather continuing to give Wisconsinites the shivers, Gov. Tony Evers on Friday declared an energy emergency across the state.
Evers said high demand due to the cold weather, combined with disruptions in the Midwestern pipeline distribution system, is causing challenges for the state's energy providers.
"The health, welfare, and safety of our neighbors depend on access to fuel for home heating," Evers said. "I’m declaring this energy emergency to ensure folks and families across our state have the fuel they need to stay warm and safe."
Declaring the emergency allows for the waiver of some state and federal hours of service restrictions. That gives suppliers a chance to catch up from delays caused by pipeline issues and severe weather.
