Calgarian Dennis George Hart was not acting in self-defence when he fatally stabbed a city resident in his northwest home four-dozen times, a jury ruled late Friday.
The 12-member Calgary Court of King’s Bench jury deliberated about three hours before finding Hart guilty as charged of second-degree murder in the Sept. 12, 2023, death of Sean Barber.
“We the jury find Dennis George Hart guilty of second-degree murder,” the jury foreman said, as Hart sat stone-faced in the courtroom prisoner’s box.
Hart did not dispute the fact he caused Barber’s death, despite testifying he had only fractured memories of events that early morning, but said the deceased had threatened to kill him.
He also admitted in his testimony he falsely believed his ex-girlfriend, Carley Hunter, had been kidnapped o
