ONEIDA, Wis. (WBAY) - The Oneida Nation is responding to a federal court decision involving nearly 500 acres of land in the Village of Hobart.
The ruling allows land to be placed into trust under tribal jurisdiction, a move Hobart had challenged in court.
The lawsuit revolved around 21 parcels of land put into a trust for the Oneida Nation by the Department of the Interior under the Indian Reorganization Act.
Hobart argued the move will put the village in “fiscal and geographical extinction”.
Now, the Oneida Nation is sharing its perspective.
