It doesn’t get much better than a toe-to-toe game in an Iowa high school basketball rivalry matchup.

The Ankeny boys traveled to Ankeny Centennial on Dec. 5, and the Hawks came out on top, 58-46, improving to 2-0 on the young season. The Jaguars dropped to 0-2.

“We’ve had some fun games here over the years,” Ankeny coach Brandt Carlson said after the victory. “It always just feels good when the guys kind of don’t play great, but they still are able to come through.

“We’re growing as a team; we have a lot of older guys but new to us. So I think we’re growing, and I like to win and learn at the same time versus the other way around.”
