An Indian Army mountaineering team from the Eastern Command has achieved a historic milestone by successfully summiting Mount Kangto (7,042 m / 23,103 ft)—the highest and, until now, unconquered peak of Arunachal Pradesh—via the formidable Southern route.
This marks the first recorded ascent of Mount Kangto, a peak long regarded as the impenetrable guardian of the Kameng Himalayas.
The team was ceremonially flagged in by Lt Gen R.C. Tiwari, Army Commander, Eastern Command, who lauded the climbers for their exceptional courage, professionalism, and endurance.
Flagged off on November 3, 2025, from a forward base by the General Officer Commanding, Gajraj Corps, the 18-member team embarked on a grueling expedition across unforgiving Himalayan terrain.
