The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has confirmed that the proposed Silchar–Sairang railway line via Bairabi has received official approval. The update was shared during a meeting in Lumding on Friday with Jonathan Lalremruata, OSD to the Chief Minister and Mizoram’s representative in the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC).
The project is slated for a virtual inauguration or flag-off after the conclusion of the ongoing Parliament session, to be jointly officiated by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister Lalduhoma.
NFR also informed that the extension of the Sairang line to Hmawngbuchhuah via Thenzawl (Peace City) has been agreed to in principle. The alignment is being finalised, following which a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared.
