The electronics and semiconductor industries are emerging as foundational sectors in India, crucial to the functioning of nearly every part of the economy, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Rajya Sabha on 5 December 2025.

Under government policies aligned with Atma Nirbhar Bharat and Make in India, electronics manufacturing has grown from ₹1.9 lakh crore in 2014–15 to ₹11.32 lakh crore in 2024–25. Mobile manufacturing units have expanded from 2 to over 300, while electronics exports have risen eightfold to ₹3.26 lakh crore, including mobile exports of more than ₹2.2 lakh crore.
