The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) maintains 50% women’s participation in all Examining and Revising Committees formed for film certification, Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, informed the Rajya Sabha. The statement was made in response to an unstarred question by Smt. Sagarika Ghose.

Under the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024, one-third of the members of the CBFC Board and Advisory Panels are required to be women. CBFC goes beyond this requirement by ensuring equal representation of women in every committee tasked with examining and revising films, reinforcing gender balance in the certification process.

The tenure of Board members is governed by the Cinematograph Act, 1952 and the rules made under it. U
