A mum was left in tears on the street after her nine-year-old son ran away the family home in a desperate attempt to avoid performing in his school's Christmas concert. Things then took a dramatic turn when the police were called into to help with the situation.

The youngster took his parents' house keys, locked his father and sister inside, and made his escape to dodge the festive production. Fortunately, another school parent spotted him roughly 20 minutes later, and he came to no harm. Sharing her ordeal on Mumsnet, the woman explained: "For last year's Christmas performance the school offered that he do the lighting and screens rather than be on the stage.
