Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has attempted to contact her estranged father, Thomas Markle , who is reported to be seriously ill in a hospital in the Philippines and to have had his leg amputated .

A spokesperson confirmed Meghan “has reached out” , but it is unclear if she reached him.

Meghan’s relationship with her father broke down before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, after he colluded with paparazzi and then pulled out of the wedding citing health issues.

Since then, they are not known to have resumed a relationship; Thomas Markle has never met Meghan and Harry’s children.

He has publicly criticised the couple’s decision to step back from royal duties and their comments about the royal family.
