When it comes to Mardi Gras throws, you just never know when the next Civic Center brick is going to hit you in the face.

Or, to put it in more civil terms, you just never know what the next year’s red-hot, I-gotta-get-me-one-of-those throws is going to be. And that’s coming from people who put a lot of time and effort into anticipating people’s Mardi Gras desires.

In 2025, in Mobile, it was a realistic-looking foam brick commemorating the demolition of the Mobile Civic Center, which had been central to Carnival celebrations in Mobile for decades. With it out of service, 17 balls – meaning 17 arena-size parties with multiple bands, thousands of guests and all the bars and buffets needed to accommodate them – had to be held elsewhere .
