The South Central Regional Transit District has been awarded a $5.04 million grant for new hybrid bus services between Las Cruces and El Paso.
The grant comes from the Federal Transit Administration's Low or No Emission Vehicle Program. It marks one of the largest competitive federal grants the transit district has received, according to a community announcement.
“This award is a major step forward for SCRTD,” David Armijo, executive director of SCRTD, said in the release. “The new express service will deliver faster, cleaner, and more reliable trips for the entire region.”
A limited-stop express service will connect Las Cruces, Anthony, the Sunland Park Casino and the El Paso Downtown Transit Center, with plans for a future extension to the El Paso International Airport.
