A woman convicted in a Penticton courtroom of defrauding hundreds of thousands from the province will spend the next two-and-a-half years in prison, the full amount requested by the Crown.

Norlene Dale White was convicted on four counts related to defrauding the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction a total of $351,538.99 over a 17‑year period, January 2004 to January 2022. She was also convicted on three other charges -- two of uttering a forged document and one count of attempted fraud.

The BC Supreme Court ruling says White was in a common-law relationship with a man she met online in 1995.

“He was represented to the Ministry at different times as being a landlord or caregiver to the sisters or as a mortgagee,” according to the ruling.
