Another rural community in the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is facing serious issues with its drinking water system.
At Thursday’s regular meeting of the RDOS board, directors approved spending $100,000 from a reserve fund “to assist the Hedley Improvement District with a well feasibility study.”
The board was asked to authorize spending $100,000 from a federal gas tax reserve fund for Electoral Area G (Keremeos, Rural Olalla–Hedley) to complete the feasibility study, said RDOS chief administrative officer Jim Zaffino.
“The purpose of this study is to ascertain whether a new production well and pumphouse is viable at potential sites in the nearby area, to address the rising levels of arsenic in the Hedley water system,” said Zaffino.
