Downtown Eugene was alive with holiday spirit Dec. 5. Merrymakers and revelers, and a few Helen Ropers, joined the city's tree lighting celebration in Kesey Square.
Eugene Mayor Kaarin Knudson led a countdown and The Oregon Duck jumped for joy as the 30-foot grand fir was illuminated. There was music and dancing and downtown retailers stayed open late to invite shoppers to make a dent in their gift lists.
