Sarah Bailey did not have a horse growing up. So, she rode her cow into town.

She'd borrow the neighbors' ponies until she got her first 4-H calf, riding down a hardtop road to the grain mill, stopping for peanuts, and talking to the farmers along the way.

Then, when it was time to show her calf at the county fair, she'd ride her cow on the fairgrounds.

"It's probably easier to ride a cow versus a pig," Bailey said. "It's the one that doesn't buck you off consistently. My kids did it growing up. My oldest son would jump on his cow and usually get the dog to jump up with him."

Growing up on a farm in Oasis, Iowa, an unincorporated community in Johnson County, there were crops, pigs, and cattle. But she was always more keen on cows, playing with them in the pasture, swimming in the water
