ALBERT LEA, Minn. — The Albert Lea City Council will consider lowering its property tax levy for 2026 by nearly $200,000 at its meeting on Monday.

This change would adjust the levy from the originally proposed $9.5 million in September to $9.3 million, reducing the increase from 8 percent to 5.9 percent.

The impact on homeowners' city property taxes will depend on property valuations set by Freeborn County. If a property's valuation remains unchanged, taxes may decrease due to increased development and property values in the city. However, if valuations rise, city taxes will also increase.
