PROVO, Utah — BYU running back LJ Martin found pay dirt on the first offensive drive of the Big 12 title game to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead over the Red Raiders.
The opening series for the offense spanned 14 plays, 90 yards, and ate almost seven minutes off the clock.
On the opening drive, Martin took four carries for 18 yards and the score. Bear Bachmeier added 12 yards on the ground, and three different players posted at least 18 yards receiving.
For a few reasons, the Cougars’ score marked some unfamiliar territory for Texas Tech.
It was the first time they allowed points on an opening drive, and just the third time they have faced a deficit all season.
