Over 20 Indian institutes studying Himalayan Glaciers; KU among centres of excellence
Srinagar, Dec 06: Jammu and Kashmir is among four states and two Union Territories shortlisted for India’s first major nationwide plan to install early warning systems against Glacial Lake Outburst Floods, as the Himalayas are witnessing accelerated and heterogeneous glacier loss driven by climate change.
As per the details accessed by Rising Kashmir, the Government has launched a coordinated set of national programmes to track glacier retreat, monitor glacial lakes in real time, and build resilience in vulnerable Himalayan regions, including J&K.
