COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - This holiday season, two dozen Colorado families are receiving the gift of comfort and joy.
“It’s a blessing,” said Laura Benton of her 11-year-old daughter Gabriela. “It’s a blessing that she gets to go and have fun but also honor and remember her dad.”
The Bentons are no ordinary family: they are a Gold Star family, who paid the ultimate sacrifice when they lost their husband and father, Navy Seal Kevin Benton, Jr., in the line of duty. And while nothing can change the tragedy they endured, the Gary Sinise Foundation, American Airlines and the Colorado Springs Airport teamed up Saturday to give the Bentons and 23 other local Gold Star families a reason to smile: an all-expense-paid trip to Walt Disney World.
