Lionel Messi can add MLS champion to his lengthy list of accolades.

The Argentinian superstar and Inter Miami defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 on Saturday to win the MLS Cup.

It was the first appearance in the MLS Cup final for both franchises.

Miami took a 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the game off an own goal by Whitecaps defender Édier Ocampo.

Ali Ahmed scored the equalizer for the Whitecaps in the 66th minute, but then Messi assisted a Rodrigo De Paul goal to put Miami back in front in the 71st minute.

It was Messi’s eighth assist of the post-season, which set a new MLS record.

Messi would add a ninth assist on Tadeo Allende’s 97th-minute goal that put Miami up 3-1 and sealed the victory.

More to come.
