FARGO — Illinois State rallied for 15 points in the final three mintues to earn a shocking 29-28 victory against No. 1-seeded North Dakota State on Saturday in the second round of the FCS playoffs at the Fargodome.
The Bison (12-1) had their unbeaten season abruptly derailed at Gate City Bank Field.
NDSU defense intercepted Illinois State quarterback Tommy Rittenhouse five times, but Rittenhouse threw two late touchdown passes and the game-wining 2-point conversion.
The Bison were limited to 179 yards on 46 plays, while the Redbirds gained 422 yards on 91 plays. Illinois State had 42 minutes of time of possession.
