CLEVELAND — The Penn State job ultimately went to a Northeast Ohio native in Matt Campbell. Another coach with area ties was at least interviewed for the job.
Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees talked to Penn State officials about the job during the 50-plus-day search, a league source confirmed for The Beacon Journal. NFL Network was the first to report.
The Browns have been high on Rees ever since they brought him on staff in 2024. They promoted him to offensive coordinator this past offseason, and handed him the play-calling duties starting in Week 10.
Penn State isn't the first time Rees has interviewed for a college head coaching job since he's worked for the Browns. It is, though, believed to be the first one he talked to this coaching cycle. Buy Cleveland Browns tickets
