Nantucket’s much-anticipated annual Christmas stroll is wrapping up this weekend, after Santa Claus sailed in on a Coast Guard cutter, was heralded by Nantucket’s town crier and visited children and families downtown Saturday.

The weekend , which kicked off Friday and ends Sunday, also featured a Santa’s Village Marketplace, more than 100 decorated trees throughout downtown, live entertainment, craft shows, house tours and more, according to the event’s website .

The Nantucket Christmas Stroll, now organized by the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce, started in 1973 as a way to encourage residents to spend their holiday shopping money on the island. The event grew over the years, featuring entertainment and activities, becoming a must-do annual destination for many.
