A 60-year-old woman and a young boy are dead after a ‘reckless and murderous’ attack on a family home.
The bodies were pulled out of the charred remains of a semi-detached home in Edenderry, Ireland at around 7.45pm on Saturday.
Another woman, aged in her 50s, is being treated in hospital for her injuries.
Supt Liam Geraghty confirmed that police believe that the house was attacked by a person or persons unknown and that the fire was deliberately started.
He described the arson as a ‘reckless, callous and murderous attack on a family home’. Cllr Claire Murray said on Facebook: ‘It is hard to put into words how devastated people are.
‘The loss of such innocent life is inexcusable. May their poor souls rest in eternal peace.
‘Edenderry is a darker place today.’
