IndiGo Airlines is facing significant operational challenges, leading to widespread flight cancellations and delays that have affected thousands of passengers. In response to this crisis, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued show cause notices to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers and Accountable Manager Isidro Porqueras, demanding explanations for the disruptions. Initially, they were required to respond by Sunday evening, but the DGCA has now granted them an extension until 6 PM on Monday due to requests from the airline executives, who cited operational constraints as the reason for their delay in responding.

For six consecutive days, IndiGo's flight operations have been severely impacted, with around 1,600 flights cancelled on Friday alone out of a total of 2,300 daily flights. By Sunday, the airline managed to operate approximately 1,650 flights, but the situation remains critical. The DGCA is closely monitoring the developments and has noted that IndiGo has processed refunds amounting to Rs 610 crore and returned 3,000 pieces of baggage to affected passengers.

The airline's on-time performance from six major metro airports reportedly improved to 20.7% on Saturday, but the disruptions have raised concerns about passenger safety and operational reliability. IndiGo has expressed optimism about stabilising its operations by December 10, a slight improvement from its previous estimate of December 10-15. However, the chaos over the past week has left many passengers stranded and uncertain about their travel plans, highlighting the ongoing challenges within India's aviation sector.
