SOUR LAKE, Texas — Hardin-Jefferson ISD announced Sunday the death of longtime teacher Carol Joy Benoit Born, a loss school officials say has deeply affected the district community.

A gathering of family and friends is set for 6p.m. - 8 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 14, at Broussard's on North Major Dr. A celebration of Born's life is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.

In a statement, the district said Born “touched countless lives through her dedication, kindness, and unwavering commitment to our students,” and described her as a beloved educator whose impact will be felt for years to come.
