GUTHRIE CENTER, Iowa —
A person and a dog died in an early morning fire in Guthrie Center on Saturday.
The Guthrie Center Fire Department says crews were called to a structure fire at 2094 Hickory Ave. shortly after 5:15 a.m. on Saturday. When crews arrived, they found a shed fully engulfed in fire that was threatening the nearby residence.
Officials say the home's occupants were safely evacuated and the fire was stopped from spreading to the house.
When firefighters put out the shed fire, they found a dead person and a dead dog inside.
The State Fire Marshal's Office and the Guthrie County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
