CLEMSON — Clemson is headed to the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 27 to face Penn State.

The contest, which is played in Yankee Stadium, will kick off at noon and air on ABC.

The Tigers (7-5) made a mid-tier ACC contest despite a glut of conference squads eligible for a bowl game. According to On3 college football reporter Brett McMurphy, the Duke’s Mayo, Pinstripe, and Sun bowls all wanted Clemson.

The Pinstripe prevailed.

It was a long wait on Dec. 7 to hear an announcement because the ACC only got one team in College Football Playoff , Miami. A series of tiebreakers put Duke and Virginia in the conference title contest, and the five-loss Blue Devils won the game in overtime, eliminating Tony Elliott and the Cavaliers from contention.
