AMID GROWING concerns over plans to cut thousands of trees in the ecologically fragile Uttarkashi-Gangotri stretch in Uttarakhand for the Char Dham road project, a yatra led by local citizen and environmental groups and supported by the RSS’s environment wing culminated in Harsil on Sunday.
A group of around 100 participants performed symbolic worship of Deodar trees, along one of the last pristine stretches of upper Ganga, tying Raksha Sutras or sacred threads.
Among the participants were Gopal Arya, the head of RSS’s environment wing.
