Five minutes from the University of Michigan’s storied Yost Arena, four ex-OHL players share an apartment as they adapt to a new life as student athletes in the NCAA.

Gone are the billet families who took them in during their days in the CHL as they learn to navigate campus life. Gone are the home-cooked meals, the watchful eyes of parental figures, and the home-away-from-home of major-junior hockey life.

All this is possible because also gone are the rules that once kept the athlete pools for top U.S. college hockey and top Canadian junior hockey largely separate.

This season, forward Malcolm Spence, goaltender Jack Ivankovic, and defencemen Henry Mews — all Canadian prospects — along with American Matthew Mania, who also played in the OHL, each took their talents to the Michigan Wolve
