THUNDER BAY — While thousands of residents had the opportunity to see the Parade of Lights on Saturday, some also managed to capture a different light show in the sky over the city.

At around 7:10 p.m., shortly after the parade began, a streak of light was observed descending towards Lake Superior.

Many onlookers attributed the unidentified flying object, lasting roughly 10 to 15 seconds, to a comet or a slow-moving meteor, as it appeared to break up and disintegrate in videos posted on Facebook.

A local member of the Royal Astronomical Society said they haven’t been able to confirm what the streak of light was just yet.

However, they’re leaning towards the possibility of it being “space junk” entering the atmosphere, the member added.
