Two tractor-trailers crashed on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Charlton early Sunday morning, sending one person to the hospital.

The Charlton Fire Department said firefighters were on scene at Interstate 90 eastbound near mile marker 84.5 for the crash around 6 a.m.

One person sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to UMass Trauma Center. There was no immediate update on their condition.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection was notified due to a fuel spill that resulted from the crash, fire officials said.

Two lanes of the highway were closed, and drivers were told to expect delays.

It's unclear what led to the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
