BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Hundreds of cars lined Greenwell Springs Road Sunday morning as families received free Christmas gifts at an annual giveaway honoring a fallen police officer.
More than 200 children received Christmas presents at the event organized in memory of Corporal Montrell Jackson, one of three Baton Rouge police officers killed in an ambush in 2016. His widow, Trenisha Jackson, has continued the tradition to keep his legacy of service alive.
“We do get new donors and sponsors every year, but a lot of times it’s my same family and friends,” Trenisha Jackson said. “This year it was a tough year to put in this Christmas event, but we made it, and I just thank god.”
