Residents have complained about noise from a water pumping system associated with a SUDs pond on a new housing development being constructed on the outskirts of Marske.
Local councillor Dr Tristan Learoyd said the noise was akin to a “fax machine”.
Cllr Learoyd also said the pond, or basin, created for drainage purposes at the Miller Homes/Taylor Wimpey site, just south of Marske, off Longbeck Road, was unsightly and likened it to a “swamp”.
Referring to the noise being emitted, local householder Ian Collings said: “[It is] unbearable.
“It’s on and off all night, sometimes lasting for minutes, and is keeping us awake and causing a lack of sleep.”
