Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress during a special Lok Sabha discussion marking 150 years of Vande Mataram, accusing the opposition party of undermining the national song and succumbing to pressure from the Muslim League in the past. He also criticised the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, for his absence during the debate.

Addressing the Lok Sabha on the sixth day of the Winter Session, PM Modi said, "Serious discussion is going on in Parliament, but LoP Rahul Gandhi is not present in the House. First Nehru, now Rahul Gandhi, has shown disregard to Vande Mataram."
