Ken Swartz’s legacy lives on.
Swartz, who died Nov. 28 at age 84, is credited with bringing pickleball to Monroe after discovering the sport in Arizona. In 2013, he helped the City of Monroe build its first pickleball court on an old tennis court.
Today, 12 years later, at least 12 Monroe County places have pickleball courts, with more courts currently under construction at Temperance's Carr Park and the park behind the Monroe Charter Township Hall.
