New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) commemorated 10 years of operations on the UltraViolet Imaging Telescope, the primary payload on board the AstroSat, which is the first dedicated space observatory launched by India. The UIVT was designed, assembled, tested and delivered by IIA from its Hosakote campuse. The IIA organised a one day academic workshop to celebrate the achievement and plan for future UV telescopes on 04 December 2025. The instrument has been operating since 30 November 2015. Director of IIA, Annapurni Subramaniam said, “Since UV rays are absorbed by our atmosphere, it can only be observed using space telescopes.
