An Edinburgh British Airways pilot declared a midair emergency shortly after take off on Monday morning. Flight BA1443 from Edinburgh Airport to London Heathrow on December 8 took off around 11am and was set to land around 12.35pm.

However, the aircraft squawked a 7700 code - signalling a general emergency onboard. It is currently circling Stirling before attempting to land back in the capital.

The exact reason for the emergency is not known at this time. A statement from FlightRadar24 on X reads: "British Airways BA1443, squawked 7700 right after departing Edinburgh for London."

British Airways have been approached for comment.
