A prison officer who engaged in an illicit relationship with an inmate, including what prosecutors described as “extremely graphic” phone s3x and the exchange of explicit letters, has been jailed for misconduct.

Megann Gibson, 26, formed the relationship with inmate Ryan Horan while working at HM Prison Wealstun, a Category C jail in West Yorkshire. The court heard she allowed Horan access to restricted areas, visited him at his resettlement accommodation and kept in touch through his mother, to whom she sent more than nine hundred messages.
