A Windsor police officer is suspended with pay after being charged with impaired driving early Saturday morning.

Police say officers spotted a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Tecumseh Road East just after 4 a.m. Dec. 6.

The male driver appeared to be behind the wheel, police say. They officers tried to speak with him, he sped away.

“In the interest of public safety, the vehicle was not pursued,” police say.

They found the vehicle not far away with the driver again asleep behind the wheel, Windsor police say. Officers arrested the man “without incident.”

The constable is charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in the blood, and fleeing police.
