The province is providing $20 million to help child-care centres cover the cost of installing concrete barriers to boost safety.
In a memorial fund named after toddler Liam Riazati , community-based operators can order and receive the barriers free of charge.
The province continues to look at improving safety around daycares, as promised following the 17-month-old’s death.
Last September, an SUV smashed through the large glass window at First Roots Early Education Academy in Richmond Hill , killing the toddler and injuring six other children. Three staffers were also injured in the accident and taken to hospital.
