Vehicles could soon be equipped with innovative breathalyser systems capable of preventing ignition should motorists be found over the limit. The revolutionary technology has the potential to transform efforts to tackle drink-driving.

A fresh initiative is pushing for these breathalysers to be installed in newly manufactured vehicles, asserting the technology is "ready to go". Referred to as an alcohol interlock or 'alcolock', these devices can identify alcohol in a motorist's breath and would stop the engine from turning over if an individual exceeded the drink-drive threshold.
